My Kitchen is Simple
January 9th 2012 15:25
My kitchen is simple. This statement has nothing to do with the fact that I have an insanely small galley kitchen with NO room, counter space or storage, although this is all true. Having a simple kitchen is my choice and, over the next few years, my kitchen will become even more simple.
I love to cook (and eat). I have almost every kitchen gadget ever made (and have never used most of them). I used to think that, in order to cook amazing foods like chefs do, I had to have all of the fancy tools and gadgets that they had. The truth is, I can do most of my cooking with a few pans, a cutting board and a knife!
I DO still have and regularly use a microwave and a coffee maker (I am hopelessly addicted to the wonderful yumminess and energy that coffee provides!). Okay, well, the microwave mostly just sits there until I need something warmed up and there is no more room on the stove or I decide to make fudge! However, I have realized that people have cooked without all of the fancy gadgets for generations (some of them even did so in wood stoves without running water, electricity or gas!!!), and if they could prepare amazing meals without having to dismantle an entire room full of kitchen gadgets, so could I.
Since then, most of my kitchen gadgets have been relegated to the shelves in my pantry as I slice, chop, dice and mix most things by hand. However, in my next post, I will discuss my kitchen essentials. There are a number of utensils and gadgets that are a must in my kitchen. Some of them come out once or twice a year, others come out daily. I will discuss each of these gadgets, why I use them and whether or not I could really manage without them.
